How to Track Instagram Username Changes
People change their Instagram handles frequently—whether rebranding a business or personal account. When someone changes their username, simple text-matching tools falsely report that the old account "unfollowed" you and a new account "followed" you.

Every Instagram user account is assigned an immutable numeric primary key (e.g. 75074368324) upon creation. While usernames change, this numeric ID never changes.
How FolScan Tracks Username Changes
When comparing two scans, FolScan indexes records by primary key:
- If ID
75074368324had username@john_doein Snapshot 1 and username@john_smith_officialin Snapshot 2, FolScan recognizes that it is the exact same account. - Instead of marking the account as a lost follower, FolScan places it in the dedicated Username Changes report section (e.g.
@john_doe → @john_smith_official).
One scan shows today's relationships. Future Premium scans show what changed.
