TEF Canada Exam & Scoring

The Test d'Évaluation de Français pour le Canada (TEF Canada) is an official language test created by the CCI Paris Île-de-France. It is officially recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI) for economic immigration applications (such as Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs) and Canadian citizenship.

For French-speaking or bilingual Express Entry streams, candidates typically target NCLC Level 7 (Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens) or higher across all four skills (Oral Expression, Oral Comprehension, Written Expression, Written Comprehension). Achieving NCLC 7 unlocks significant bonus Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points under Express Entry. Read our TEF Canada Preparation Guide for a detailed benchmark overview.

Under IRCC regulations, official TEF Canada test results are valid for 2 years from the date the exam was taken.
